How I Convinced A Real Moonshiner To Tell Me His Secrets

At Homestead Hollow we have made a name for ourselves not only as a venue to peruse art, crafts, nicknacks, and snackable treats from your favorite small businesses three times a year. But, we are also a place dedicated to upholding the old-fashioned way of life. That means over the years we have brought to you the likes of, yarn spinners, iron workers, woodcarvers, quilt makers, and wood stove cooks all demonstrating their unique skill sets carried over from the years gone by in an attempt to connect us all to the old ways of American life.

But there is one demonstration at every show that stands out among the rest. One set of demonstrators  that makes the Homestead Hollow experience for so many of our guests. That would be our moonshiners. For the past couple decades we have had a moonshining demonstration at every Homestead Hollow show. We do the demonstrations legally – and pour all of the moonshine out at the end of the show. But for some of our first moonshine demonstrators many years ago, for them that wasn’t always the case.

We had some honest to goodness, law-skirting, bootlegging, moonshiners at every show for several years. Unfortunately, Ivan and Preacher have since passed away, but they taught us everything we know, and we continue to honor their legacy by continuing to have a little fun and making a little moonshine at every show. So check out this video to gain a bit of knowledge from some great American moonshiners, and get excited for Homestead Hollow coming May 9th, 10th, and 11th. See you there.
